Hair care

Gentle, consistent care is the most useful routine. Adapt these principles to the exact fibre and construction of your piece, and always follow product-specific instructions when they are provided.

Detangle with patience

Before or after wear, support the hair near the roots and work from the ends upwards using an appropriate comb or brush. Take your time around the nape and other areas where friction can build up. Do not pull through knots or brush aggressively when hair is wet.

For textured styles, use the method recommended for that specific fibre and curl pattern. Unnecessary brushing can change the shape of a curl or create unwanted frizz.

Wash only when it needs it

How often a piece needs washing depends on fibre, styling products, climate, wear frequency and the manufacturer’s instructions. Clean it when there is visible product build-up, an altered feel or a need to refresh the style, rather than washing on an arbitrary schedule.

Use products and water temperature appropriate to the exact fibre. Do not assume that methods for natural hair, human-hair pieces and synthetic fibres are interchangeable.

Be considered with heat and styling

Use heat only if the product guidance expressly allows it, and start at the lowest effective setting. Excessive heat can alter fibre, colour, texture or construction. A small test on an inconspicuous area is sensible where instructions permit styling but the result is unfamiliar to you.

Protect the cap and lace from unnecessary tension, pins and tools. Styling should enhance the piece, not make its construction work harder than it needs to.

Store it with intention

When not in use, make sure the piece is clean, dry and detangled. Store it away from direct sunlight, heat, damp and friction. A suitable stand, hanger or protective box can help it retain shape, depending on the item and available space.

Avoid leaving a piece loose in a bag or under heavy items. A few careful minutes after wear can save time when you next reach for it.

Use product-specific guidance

This page gives general care principles only. The appropriate cleanser, conditioner, heat approach, adhesive-removal method and storage routine must be matched to the product’s confirmed fibre and construction.

Keep the supplied care information and consult it before making alterations. If it is missing or unclear, ask before proceeding rather than taking a risk with the piece.
